Manaswini’s dance tribute to Muruga

Manaswini Sridhar, a young charming dancer from Nanganallur, is the disciple of renowned Suma Mani (a disciple of famous actress-dancer Shobana).

Manaswini captivated the audience with her wonderful Bharatanatyam performance at the Nanganallur Subramanya temple.

She began with an invocation to Ganesha in Gambhira Nattai. Her focus was on the virtues of Lord Subramanya, also called Muruga, as she was performing in a temple dedicated to him.

Her expressions for ‘Sutri Varuguthu Varuguthu Vel’, in raga Shanmukapriya, were excellent as she was able to communicate with the audience through her expressive eyes.

Her exemplary footwork for ‘Sendhil Mevum Deva Deva’, a composition by Lalgudi Jayaraman in Neelambari, made the layman comprehend the subtleties of the dance in a lucid way.

‘Kavadi Chindu’ finds place in every dance concert and Manaswini also followed it by performing a number - Azhagu Deivam.

For a connoisseur, the steps may seem repetitive but the variety of emotions she showcased in abhinaya was brilliant.
