Indian dance fest at Mamallapuram

The Indian Dance Festival kicked off at the Pallava town of Mamallapuram on December 27, as several international tourists lined up to see an assemblage of Indian dance forms. The open lawns of the popular Shore Temple became the open air theatre for the annual dance festival.

The hour-long inaugural session was followed by Lakshmi Ramasamy’s Sri Mudralaya team’s elaborate Bharatanatyam performance detailing the 10 avatars of Vishnu. The troupe managed to give foreigners an idea of Hindu mythology and showcase the beautiful dance form.

During the 31-day festival, the tourists will get to see several dance forms in India, including Kathak, Kuchipudi, Mohiniattam, Bhangra, Oyilattam, Naiyaandi Melam, Poikaaal Kudhirai, Bommalaattam, Thappattam, Karagam and Kaavadi. Entry to the festival has been made free for tourists for the first time this year.
