Sundaram Finance’s ‘Weekend at the Park’ series completes 10 years

Children learn art of making Paper Lanterns at Nageswara Rao Park

Over 1000 Children have participated in the art and craft workshops during the last decade

: As part of the weekend at the park activity, Sundaram Finance organised a Paper Craft workshop for children on Saturday between 3pm and 5pm at the Nageswara Rao Park, Mylapore.  Children in the age group of 8-12 years were taught the art of making colourful Paper Lanterns. Sundaram Finance presented certificates to the children who took part in the workshop.

As part of this series, once a quarter, on a Saturday evening for two hours, Sundaram Finance has brought together 25-30 children for art and craft workshops. The idea behind the activity has been to make use of the open spaces in the park and provide young children a platform to develop their creative talents in a congenial atmosphere and to unearth and showcase their hidden talents.

Over 1000 children have taken part in the ‘Weekend in the Park’ series during this period.

TT Srinivasaraghavan, MD, Sundaram Finance said, “Since February 2006, Sundaram Finance has been organising the monthly Sunday Kutcheri in the Park on the first Sunday of every month. In June 2009, we expanded the activities at the Nageswara Rao Park to include a quarterly art and craft workshop for children. There is a constant lament that there is not enough outdoor activity for children these days. To that end, I believe that the activity at the park has provided children with a number of opportunities to get a breath of fresh air and to feel the wind in their faces, away from the confines of the Air-Conditioned rooms.”

“They not only learn new skills but also become aware of the environment and the park and the trees and the birds.”

Sundaram Finance has also been organising a chess tourney over the last decade at the Nageswara Rao Park where in over 50children take part, every year in January as part of the Mylapore Festival.

Sundaram Finance has been maintaining the Nageswara Rao Park for over 15 years.
