Recipe Contest



Roasted gram (pottu kadalai) powder – 200 gm
Besan flour - 200 gm
Rice flour - 200 gm
Chillie powder - A little
Asafoetida powder - A pinch
Ghee - 2 spoons
Oil - ½ kg
Salt to taste


Mix all the flours in a bowl and add salt, chilie powder, asafoetida powder, ghee and two spoons of hot oil, mix well and knead it. In a pan, heat the oil and put a small quantity of the dough in a mould which has just one hole. Make a circle on a plastic sheet and lower it in the oil and take out the plastic sheet quickly. Turn the roundel both sides and wait till it turns brown. Drain the oil.

Crispy chakkali is ready for Deepavali. It is a north Indian savoury.
