Letter writing contest for kids

In all, 550 students participated in the Department of Posts’ annual ‘Universal Postal Union (UPU) letter writing competition’ for students below 15 years that was held in Chennai on January 8, 2012, at the C D Nayagam T Nagar Higher Secondary School.

the 41st UPU competition. Participants were asked to write a letter to an athlete or a sports personality on what the Olympic Games meant to them. Students were given the option of writing in English or their mother tongue.

Best three entries from each postal circle will be forwarded to the postal directorate. Also, three best entries in Tamil will also be forwarded.

Prizes range from Rs 250 (consolation) to Rs 2,000 (first prize) and the best entry at the national-level would qualify as the official Indian entry for the international-level competition.

The UPU would select the international award-winning entries. The top three entries would be awarded gold, silver and bronze medals along with a certificate and an album of UPU official postage stamps.
