‘Campus Commune’ - a web portal designed by TCS - was launched by K Ganesan, global head of talent acquisition and academic interface program, at Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Chennai, on January 27, 2012.
The chief guest on this occasion said this portal provides a platform for technology-enabled knowledge sharing between students and faculty from the college and TCS. He urged the student community to make use of this portal extensively by posting all their questions and seek answers from their peers, faculty and TCS. This, he said, will go a long way in enhancing their knowledge not only in the prescribed subjects of study, but also on the recent developments in their branch of engineering and technology. The opportunity to participate in the various online competitions such as technical quizzes, coding contest, etc., will be some of the added features of the portal.
Answering some of the questions from the students, he pointed out that clear understanding of fundamentals in the chosen subjects, good communication skill and consistency in academic performance are the three major attributes expected from the graduates passing out of the institution and seeking a job in the corporate sectors. For a specific question on the existing gap between the curricular learning and industrial requirement, he said it can be narrowed down through suitable value-added programs offered by the institutions.
Dr Thangam Meganathan, in her presidential address, thanked TCS for the initiative in collaboration with students to enhance their skills. Prof M Subbiah welcomed the gathering and Prof I Philip Praveen proposed the vote of thanks.
