‘Nangai Friends’ celebrate Friendship Day

‘Nangai Friends’ comprising five spirited women - Lakshmi Rangarajan, Malathi Vasudevan, Usha Subramaniam, Shanthi Suresh and Lalitha Ramkumar - celebrated ‘Friendship Day’ with enthusiasm at a local park in Nanganallur.

After an invocation prayer by Sowmya, Uma Natarajan, who is adept at conducting games, conducted tambola pertaining to Indian Independence which was interesting and informative. It was heartening to see many women participate in every game with zeal.

Nangai Friends want to be of some use to society and tap the potentials lying dormant in women. They conduct spiritual and cultural tours, choreograph ‘pinnal kolattam’ and participate in social activities outside the area.

Since we came together by sheer fate to form ‘Nangai Friends’, it is only proper to commemorate Friendship Day by having a bash, remarked Malathi Vasudevan.

The events consisted of games, tambola, anthakshari and JAM session spread over two weekends. We have lucky dip to lure people to participate, declared Lakshmi Rangarajan whose enthusiasm is infectious.

Shanthi Suresh feels that women should keep themselves occupied, otherwise they will feel bored.

Lalitha Ramkumar is skilled at conducting quiz programmes and is the backbone of Nangai Friends. Usha Subramaniam is industrious and dedicated in any work she undertakes. They have several projects on the anvil and are working on them.

Chief guest Usha Raja, chairperson, Newsreel Media Services, spoke about friendship and highlighted the merits of having friends.
