Food for thought

Australian Mocktail, Pineapple Pinacolado, Nutricheer, 6th C salad, Classic Avagado Dhayamunce…these were some of the creative names given to recipes that were included in the competition held by the Oil and Gas Conservation Committee to create awareness among the public about conservation of oil and gas.

The most impressive winner in the cooking competition that was divided into three sections: beverages, dessert and salad, was Suraj, who brought out a recipe named ‘Chocolate Delight’.

The oldest participants were Thamayandhi and Parijadham, who have six decades of cooking experience. But they won prizes in the cooking-without-fire competition!

The national-level essay competition was held in three languages - Hindi, Tamil and English. The prize winners for Hindi and English were awarded in Delhi. Essays in Tamil were given prizes at the valediction of ‘Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight 2012’ held at Music Academy, Chennai, recently.

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation’s state-level coordinator Venkatraman, stating that the ‘less you burn the more you earn’, brought out the significance of conservation. He gave statistical reference of natural resources and said oil and gas stock will go down after 46-47 years. So, he concluded that it’s the responsibility of people to conserve gas and oil. He also touched upon global warming due to the burning of fossil fuels.

The programme had a resounding conclusion with Ghatam Karthik’s Heart Beats group’s live performance.
