You want to live life kingsize? Head to the ‘Royal Indiana’ restaurant of The Accord Metropolitan hotel in T Nagar, Chennai.
If there is a restaurant of the hotel that draws Indians and foreigners alike, it is this, it is this.
Royal Indiana is a truly majestic restaurant which caters to authentic south Indian cuisine, providing traditional breakfast, lunch and dinner, says executive chef of The Accord Metropolitan, P Jagadish Purshotham.
For breakfast, we are tempted to gorge on the spicy, hot vadais, soft, supple idlis, rasa vadais, pongal oozing with tons of ghee and sprinkled with fried cashews, and piping hot south Indian coffee. I polish off 10 idlis at one stroke, declared a guest from America who is staying in the hotel.
The extravagant spread for lunch is a heady mixture of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The memorable vegetable soup, with floating bread crumbs, and a variety of vegetables are a treat for a diehard veggie. The three-course meal of sambar, rasam and thick curd, which resembles an iceberg, forms the core of the meals. The usual appalams, fried roundels, sundal and raita form part of the regal meal. The lip-smacking desserts comprise cakes, pastries, doughnuts, halwa and ice creams.
The stately dinner is a gastronomical delight, stated Jagadish and explained that they are patronised by office-goers, young couples and foreigners.
The Accord Metropolitan has many Europeans visit the hotel mainly to taste the different types of cuisines. It provides all types of coastal, continental, south Indian and north Indian food. Now, it flourishes with an excellent breakfast set-up. Saturday and Sunday bring in the holiday crowds. We give unbelievable offers/discounts during the festival season to increase the name and fame of this hotel, said Jagadish.
But then, the hotel always buzzes with activity, according to the executive chef. There are a host of food festivals, Christmas, New Year and Valentine’s Day specials, to name a few.
