Ingredients
Toor dhal - 200 gm
Channa dhal - 100 gm
Coriander seeds - 600 gm
Red chillies - 50 gm
Vendhayam (fenugreek) - 1 spoon
Mustard - 1 spoon
Turmeric powder - 2 spoons
LG - 2 spoons
Tamarind - 150 gm
Oil - 2 spoons
Curry leaves
Method
Fry toor dhal, channa dhal, coriander seeds and vendhayam without oil till they become golden brown.
Add ½ spoon oil and fry red chillies. Keep it aside. Fry the tamarind without oil. Grind toor dhal, channa dhal, LG, vendhayam, curry leaves and tamarind coarsely. Splutter mustard in a tava and add to the powder. Add turmeric powder to it and mix well.
Instant sambar powder is ready!
Since the powder contains tamarind, it need not be used while preparing sambar.
