Ingredients
Chow chow – 1 Toor dhal - 2 spoons Urad dhal - 2 spoons Tamarind - A small ball Mustard - 1/2 spoon Red chillies – 3 Grated coconut - ½ cup Oil - 1 spoon Salt to taste
Method
Wash and peel the skin of chow chow (Bangalore kathirikkai). Cut chow chow into small pieces. In a pan, pour oil and heat it. Fry toor dhal, red chillies and urad dhal till they turn brown. Fry cut chow chow lightly. Grind tamarind, salt, red chillies, grated coconut and fried dhal coarsely, add chow chow and grind till it becomes a coarse paste. Add spluttered mustard and mix well.
Chow chow thuvayal can be a good substitute for sambar. It can be used as side dish for idli and dosai.
