"Dr. K. V. Thiruvengadam Award for Health Care 2017"

 

The prestigious "Dr. K. V. Thiruvengadam Award for Health Care 2017" was conferred on Dr. M.K. Mani, well known Nephrologist, Apollo Hospitals, by the Rotary Club of Madras East (RCME) and Kauvery Hospital. Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj, ED, Kauvery Hospital presented the award to Dr. M.K. Mani in the presence of Padma Shri Dr. K. V. Thiruvengadam.

 

According to Rtn. Purshotham, President, RCME, "Our club has instituted the Dr. K. V. Thiruvengadam Award for Health Care since 2006, in the name of our Honorary Member, Dr. K. V. Thiruvengadam, who is a doyen of Medicine and Healthcare in India. Dr. M.K. Mani has impeccable values and stands for medical ethics. Apart from being a great Nephrologist, he is a great teacher and has given his best to all his patients including the needy. He is the most deserving Doctor to be conferred with this award."

 

Dr. M.K. Mani is one of the pioneers in nephrology, the study of diseases of the kidney, and has been instrumental in establishing it on a firm footing in India. His endeavours have been recognized by the award of Padma Bhushan, The John H. Dirks award of the International Society of Nephrology, Rabindranath Tagore oration award of the Indian College of Physicians and many more. Besides the practice and the teaching of nephrology, Dr. Mani is known for his strong views about medical education, ethics and the doctor-patient relationship.
