The suburbs of Chennai are as vibrant as the city itself. The city has expanded on all sides but the southern suburb of Chennai, which encompasses many areas, is a miniature Chennai. People in the suburbs don’t have to visit the city any longer to buy anything as everything is readily available in the suburbs.
In pulsating Pallavaram, a suburb of Chennai, department store ‘Dhaanya’ was opened on January 24 by Finance Minister K Anbazhagan, Labour Minister T M Anbarasan and Pallavaram chairman E Karunanithi.
Situated near Janatha Theatre on Srinivasa Koil Street, ‘Dhaanya’ has won ISO: 9001:2001.
‘Dhaanya’ stands for grains in Tamil. This store is not only a granary but also a wholesome department store from where people can pick up anything for their day-to-day needs.
Prithvik Kumar, who was owns ‘Dhaanya’, said he was happy with the response he had got from the people of Pallavaram and the surrounding areas.
He also manages hotels, lodges, a saloon and spa. The reason behind the opening of ‘Dhaanya’ department store, according to Prithvik Kumar who claims it is the biggest department store in Pallavaram, was that he wanted to diversify his business.
The speciality of ‘Dhaanya’ is that it is the largest ISO-certified showroom in Pallavaram which sells branded items and all products are available, including foreign goods. It sells foreign goods from chocolates to perfumes. Prithvik Kumar said they would also do home deliveries and give a discount ranging from 2-5 per cent for customers who buy for more than Rs 1,500.
