There are a lot of workshops and camps about health and keeping fit. Students are being roped in to create awareness about leading a healthy lifestyle. The NSS camp of MOP Vaishnav College focused on ‘Healthy Youth for Healthy India’ from February 18-24.
The NSS volunteers went to MOP primary school at Triplicane and initiated the theme. As an introductory programme, the students of the schools were given deworming tablets to clean their stomach and then prescribed multi-vitamin tablets.
A dental camp was organised and basic mouth and teeth care were taught to the children and toothbrush and paste then distributed. Two cartons of books were donated to the school library.
At Dhobikana in Chetput, an eye camp along with Dr Agarwal’s Eye Institute was organised. A general health camp was conducted and financial awareness and loan procedures were highlighted.
The kids had a field day as memory games drawing and elocution competition were held to test their skills.
Even MOP students and faculty had to undergo health check-up.
A sticker campaign to create awareness about child labour was jointly conducted with the Department of Labour.
Dr N Rajahussain, programme coordinator for NSS, University of Madras, was the chief guest for the valedictory function. Two guests from Dhobikhana spoke about the services rendered by the volunteers.
