Nanganallur is called the geriatric ward of Chennai as many elders whose children have left their hometown for greener pastures have made the temple town their home.
It is not enough if we only visit temples, we need to be mentally and physically fit, quips a septuagenarian who is all set to participate in the sports competitions being organised by Lakshmi Nagar Sports Club and Pinnacle Sports Club.
Both men and women above 50 years can participate in a wide range of sports activities like basketball and marathon race. Participants should assemble at the premises half-an-hour before the start of the competition.
There is cookery contest for Nangayin Mangai. The aim of the competition is to make elders feel that they are also wanted by society and make them feel that they can also be active in sports, says Alagesan, one of the coordinators of the event.
Prizes will be declared and given away on March 13 in the presence of Labour Minister Anbarasan, Mayor M Subramanian and a host of other noted personalities from various streams besides local bigwigs and cookery queen Mallika Badrinath.
