B S Purshotham, President RCME said “The Dronacharaya Award is a unique endeavour by RCME to recognize the ‘Gurus’ who have made a singular contribution in their chosen fields. Culturally, India has given the 'Guru' an exalted status. Today, great teachers are still respected and put on a pedestal. But the effort to rise from good to great is a transformation that teachers make themselves by being relevant to students and their changing needs of nurturing and guidance”.

Padma Bhushan Dr T Ramasami Former Secretary- Dept of Science & Technology, Government of India who was the Chief Guest said. He was delighted at the function which recognizes Teachers and Gurus. Teachers play a very important role in shaping the character of any individual in the formative years which later on produces an excellent human being.

Yogacharya S Sridharan started   his   learning   in   Yoga   from     TKV   Desikaracharya. He has had a continuous engagement with both Yoga and Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM). He is confident of the growth of Yoga, its awareness and practice of this age old form of exercise for the body and soul. He is a teacher whose passion and conviction in the abilities of Yogic practice has helped many students and teachers realize their dreams of yoga practice.

V Balakrishnan, has been a teacher and practitioner of theatre for over two decades. He received his Diploma in Acting from the National School of Drama and came to Chennai in the late nineties. In 2000, he founded his company Theatre Nisha and began working with schools and colleges across the city.

He has tirelessly strived to make the craft enjoyable and accessible to all. To him, theatre has not just been about staging plays, but a forum for people to stage their lives on their own terms. He has also worked with children with learning difficulties and special needs, using theatre as a tool to enhance social adjustment and communication.

He received the Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching 2017 and was at Indiana University working on an inquiry-based project. The result is a handbook that is now being used to conduct workshops in schools, communities facing marginalisation and discrimination, and in the corporate sector also.
