Cyclone Thane may have shaken a bit people who were not affected by its powerful winds in Tamil Nadu. But those living in Pondicherry and the areas surrounding Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu, have been shaken to their roots.
But unshaken by the magnitude of the destruction, about 20, young, strong men, gathered together, in Chennai, calling themselves the ‘TASK FORCE’, dared to got to Pondicherry to see how they could help the down and out.

They hired a van on January 7 and went down to a HIV/AIDS hospice, 7 km from Pondicherry, to see what could be done for the troubled people of the area.
The first sight that hit them was the debris “which was so huge around the whole area”.
The Task Force started to work from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. with very short intervals for lunch and tea.
They happily plunged into work and “gathered tonnes and tonnes of logs/timber”.
While a few cut the fallen trees, others gathered the twigs/logs while some others burnt the dead leaves “which was a Himalayan heap”.
These 20 young men of different faiths, brought together by NGO Shabnam Resources of Chennai that is into helping needy and street children under the gentle care of its director M R Hubert, impressed everybody by working harmoniously.
