Ashok Leyland CSR Initiative Reaches Kolli Malai in Namakkal

Ashok Leyland, flagship of the Hinduja Groups CSR initiative focused on holistic child development program called as Road to School was inaugurated today at Kolli Malai, Namakkal District by Mr. N V Balachandar, President-HR, Communication & CSR in the presence of Thiru Kranthi Kumar Pathi, IAS, Sub Collector, Namakkal, Senior officials from Ashok Leyland, Education Department and local community representatives.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. N.V Balachandar, said “The company has been leading this project and seen it nurture and grow from strength to strength”. He further added that “Road to School” initiative has changed many lives of students. We, at Ashok Leyland want to drive real meaningful change among the rural student community. For us, the initiative is not just a CSR program, it is something that draws company-wide involvement.

 

The “Road to School” program, helps nurture both Scholastic and Co-Scholastic development of children at Government schools in remote locations covering Education, Health, Personal Hygiene, Wellness, Nutrition Supplement, Emotional Development including Sports and Music. Ashok Leyland’s CSR initiative Road to School is present in 333 Schools across Tamil Nadu impacting around 30000 underprivileged students annually.

 

This year Ashok Leyland plans to reach out to over 56000 students covering 714 schools in Tamil Nadu. In a unique initiative to reach out to remote rural and hilly area, Ashok Leyland selected Kolli Malai for expansion of Road to School Project. The Project in Kolli Malai will benefit approximately 4200 students annually and will support 60 government schools with remedial education, Health and Wellness initiatives, Breakfast for children, sports and music education in remote schools in the hills of Kolli Malai. 

 

Kolli Malai is a remote mountain range at an altitude of 1300 mts spread over 280 square kilometers.  The region has 60 government primary and middle schools catering mostly to tribal children. Ashok Leyland will be one of the first corporate to take their CSR initiative to such remote region in Tamil Nadu state.

 

This program was started in the year 2015 with 36 Schools in Shoolagiri and Anchetty in Krishnagiri District, Tamil Nadu. The success of the program encouraged the company to now further expand its wings in the districts of Tiruvallur, Namakkal and Salem in the last four years covering 714 Schools impacting around 56000 Students in Govt Primary and Upper Primary schools.
