Veenotsav’11, a two-day veena fest featuring more than 50 musicians (ghatam, mridangam and veena artistes), highlighted the strong commitment and passion that the music world has in preserving and promoting Indian culture. “This is the third consecutive year that Mudhra and the Brahma Gana Sabha have been jointly organising the dual dais concept,” said Bhaskar, Secretary, Mudhra.Renowned art director Thotta Tharani inaugurated the fest.
Performing on the first day at the Infosys Hall in the Ramakrishna Mission school campus, Anjani Bharadwaj young Vainikas played gracefully.
Pichumani Iyer, a 91-year-old senior artiste, showcased his fondness for the instrument. Padmavathi Ananthagopalan presented an interesting combination of the different genres while Tanjore Subramaniam on the mridangam and EM Subramaniam on the ghatam supported her well. Day one ended with impressive performances by Kalyani Ganesan, Dr Shanthi Mahesh and Dr Mallika.
