It seems like yesterday that singer Mano came into the Tamil film world with his golden voice and engaging manners.
On January 26, 2012, Shankar’s music troupe ‘Sadaga Paravaigal’ is organising a function at Anna Centenary auditorium to celebrate his silver jubilee year in the industry. Yes, Mano has completed 25 years in the film industry.
Mano was born in a Muslim family and his original name was Nagoor Babu. It was music maestro Ilayaraja who rechristened him Mano by which name he shone like a bright star in Tamil and Telugu filmdom.
He was trained in Carnatic music by Nedunuri Krishnamurthi.
He shot to fame with the song ‘Shenbagame’ for the film ‘Enga Ooru Paattukkaran’. He followed it up with superhits like ‘Mukkala Muqabla’ from the film ‘Kaadhalan’. There were equally impressive songs in ‘Nayagan’, ‘Muthu’ and ‘Chinna Thambi’.
Soon he became as busy a singer as S P Balasubrahmanyam. Again, like SPB, he also turned into an actor.
Though he has acted in several stage plays, he made a name for himself in Telugu filmdom where he has done 15 films, including ‘Rangoon Rowdy’ and ‘Kethu Gadda’.
The versatile Mano made a mark as a singer in many languages and also plays anchor in many music programmes on TV and has tried his hand at music direction.
The Chennai function on Thursday begins at 6 p.m.
