We have arranged our Kolu with the theme ‘Nava Vidha Bhakthi’.
Shravanam: Hearing the Lord's name. Eg: Rukmini Kalyanam. Rukmini waiting at Gowri temple and Krishna reading the letter sent by Rukmini through Brahmin.
Keerthanam: Singing the praise of the Lord. Eg: Parikshit listening to the Bhagavatam from Sugar Maharishi and Lava-Kusha singing the Ramayanam.
Smaranam: Chanting the Lord's name. Eg: Dhruva
Paada Sevanam: Worshipping the feet of the Lord: Eg: Bharatha doing paduka puja of Rama’s sandals.
Archanam: Offering flowers. Eg: Periyalwar at Srirangam. Another eg: Potter at Tirupati offers clay flowers while Thondaiman Raja offers golden flowers. The clay flowers are seen on the top in the morning. Realising the greatness of the potter’s bhakthi, the king builds a temple for him.
Vandanam: Obeisance. Eg: Akrura coming from Mathura to see Krishna at Brindavan, falls shaashtaangam seeing the footprints of the Lord, continues this till he sees the Lord.
Daasyam: Utter devotion. Eg: Hanuman - the ultimate daasan
Sakhyam: Friendship. Eg: Rama and Guha, Krishna and Arjuna, Krishna and Kuchela
Atma Nivedhanam: Offering self. Eg: Mahabali to Vamana
Story of Hiranyakashipu: Scenes
1: Narada narrating the various avatars of the Lord to Hiranyakashipu’s pregnant wife.
2. Prahlad attends gurukul. Teacher says Hiranyakashipu is God.
3. Father takes Prahalad on lap and asks him what he learnt in school. Prahalad narrates the greatness of Hari with the Nava Vidha Bhakthi. Father orders son to be killed.
4. He is thrown off the mountain, Vayu carries him gently and hands him over to waiting hands of Bhoomadevi. Child thinks of Krishna carrying the Govardhan and is unhurt.
5. Elephant comes to trample. He thinks of Gajendra Moksham and escapes.
6. Mother gives poison. He remembers Krishna and Putana.
7. Thrown in ocean, he remembers the Lord's milky ocean.
8. Snakes surround him. Thinks of Kalinga Nardhana. Escapes.
9. Thrown in fire with Holika (Hiranyakashipu’s sister with boon that agni won’t hurt her). Escapes thinking of Krishna swallowing Analasura who comes as forest fire, sent by Kamsa.
10. Hiranyakashipu asks where Hari is. Prahlad points out the pillar. Narasimha is waiting.
11. Narasimha kills the asura.
12. Prahlad sings the Lord’s praises and He cools down and appears as Lakshmi Narasimha and blesses.
