Kalyani
Kalyani is the 65th Melakartha raga and a sampoorna raga.
Besides shadjam and panchamam, which are non-variants, the other swaras are: Chatursruthi rishabam Anthara gandharam Prathi madhyamam Chatursruthi dhaivatham Kaisiki nishadam
It can be sung in three octaves. Though it can be sung during any time of the day, rendering it in the evenings appeals to the senses. The raga can be dealt with in great detail. Kalyani is an apt choice for rendering RTP – Ragam Tanam Pallavi.

Srinivasan on Kalyani:
It is a vibrant raga with an enduring appeal. I am fascinated by my father’s rendition of the raga. Every song captures the essence of the raga and all the swaras are evenly spaced out. It is easy to sing and find the raga. Swaras oscillate in the raga and make the audience captive. It has a feminine charm and has scope for delineation. My father used to enjoy even film songs in Kalyani like ‘Mannavan Vanthanadi’. The greatness of the raga in indescribable.
