Podiatry clinic for foot care

The renowned M V diabetic clinic has opened a new specialty podiatric clinic at its centre at Mylapore.

Podiatry is a branch of medicine which diagnoses and treats disorders of the foot, ankle, and lower leg.

The clinic was inaugurated by national squash champion Dipika Pallikal. After an invocation prayer, CEO of M V Hospitals for Diabetics and Diabetic Research, Nagarathnam, welcomed the gathering and extended a special welcome to Dipika .He extolled her virtues and called her the pride of India. Nagarathnam revealed that Dipika had just 19 days to go to reach19 years of age.

Dr Vijay Vishwanathan, M.D., M.V. Hospitals and Diabetic Research Centre, praised Dipika for her achievements at a very young age. He gave an overview of the podiatry clinic and said there was a lab and three rooms for diabetic and non-diabetic persons as well.

There is preventive foot care with Dr Rangan and Dr Rajesh attending on the patients.

He said people generally neglect the foot which causes major problems like fungal infection. Diabetics have to be very careful with the foot as it may trouble them.

They have state-of-art equipment to look at the foot and diagonise the problems very fast.

This clinic mainly caters to people of south Chennai, said Dr Vijay Vishwanathan.

Dipika spoke about the importance of foot and how she uses it in her exercise daily. She stressed the importance of foot care not only for athletes and diabetics but also the common man.
